The MODLAND Tile ID is an 8 digit integer, such as 51018009, that is used to specify a gridded product's projection, tile size and horizontal and vertical tile number.
The first digit (the leftmost digit) is used to identify the projection, i.e., the tiling scheme. The 5 possible values are:
1 - Integerized Sinusoidal projection
2 - Goode's Homolosine projection
3 - Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area projection with projection center at the North Pole
4 - Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area projection with projection center at the South Pole
5 - Sinusoidal projection
The second digit is used to specify the tile size. The 3 possible values are:
1 - full size tile
2 - quarter size tile
4 - one-sixteenth size tile
The next 3 digits (digits 3 to 5) is used to specify horizontal tile number, and the last 3 digit (digits 6 to 8) is for the vertical tile number. The ranges of horizontal and vertical tile number is depending on the projection and the tile size, they are listed in the table below.

Example: Tile ID 51018009 identifies a full size tile in the Sinusoidal projection with horizontal tile number 18 and vertical tile number 9.
All the L2G output files including PNTR and other L2G outputs carry TILEID as a Product Specific Attribute (PSA) TILEID in the core metadata, so it is searchable in the database. It is recommended that all the L3 and L4 products also carry the PSA TILEID in the core metadata.
